Insurance Claims against the Council

The Insurance Section handles claims made against the council for compensation for injury or damage. This could include claims arising from public highways and footways, injury to employees, motor incidents, or housing tenants suffering damage or injury caused by the council.

How to make a claim

You can make a claim by completing the online form:

Make a claim to the Council

Or by sending a letter to the following address:

Insurance Section, Corporate Services, Rotherham MBC,
Wing C, 3rd Floor, Riverside House,
Main Street, Rotherham S60 1AE

Your letter should include the following information:

  • Your full name, address, and contact details
  • The precise location, date, and time of the incident
  • A full explanation of what happened
  • Details of any damage, injuries, or loss suffered
  • The name, address, and contact details of any witnesses (you must obtain their consent before sharing this information)
  • Any other evidence to support your claim, such as photographs, medical evidence, or other documentation
  • Any reference number for the reported issue related to the incident, for example a pothole report

What happens next?

Once we receive your claim, we will send you an acknowledgement that includes a claim reference number. Your claim will then be passed to our external claim handlers, Gallagher Bassett, who will investigate the evidence provided. They may request further information. Once their investigation is complete, they will contact you to confirm the outcome.

What if I am not happy with the outcome?

If you are not happy with the outcome of your claim, you can ask for a review by contacting the Insurance Section at the address above.
