What is a Parish Council
- Grassroots level of local government
- Focus on community issues like parks, community centres, and local events
- Funded through a small portion of council tax (precept)
- Composed of elected or co-opted councillors and a Clerk
- Normally first point of contact of people to go with concerns or ideas.
What decisions do Parish Councils make?
- Parish Council’s make decisions that specifically effect their community including:
- getting involved with planning matters
- crime prevention
- helping local groups
- managing open spaces
- campaigning for and delivering better services and facilities.
Role of a Parish Councillor
- Represent the interests of the local community
- Attend council meetings and use local knowledge to participate in decision-making
- Help shape local services and projects
- Work with residents and other stakeholders
- Ensure the council operates within legal and financial regulations
- Communities look to Parish Councillors for help, guidance and support.
