Borough, Parish, South Yorkshire Police & Crime Commissioner elections and the Dinnington St John’s Neighbourhood Planning Referendum  are due to take place on Thursday 6 May 2021.

Polling stations will be safe places to vote and the following measures will be in place:

  • Social distancing – Where possible, keep 2 metres apart. The number of people allowed in a polling station at any one time will be limited, so you may have to queue.
  • Face coverings - please wear one unless you have a good reason not too
  • There will be screens between staff and electors
  • Hand sanitiser will be provided at the polling station entrance and exit.
  • There will be pencils available to mark your ballot papers, but you can bring your own pen or pencil if you wish.

If you do not wish to go to the polling station to vote, you can apply to vote by post or by proxy.

Due to the new ward boundaries some electors may find they are voting in a different polling station and/or different ward to previous elections. We will send registered electors a poll card towards the end of March which will provide details about which elections they can vote in and how to vote.

Borough elections

Following a review of ward boundaries by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, the borough elections will take place based on new ward boundaries for all wards and all seats.  The number of council seats will be reduced from 63 to 59 and the number of wards will be increased from 21 to 25.

There will be nine three-councillor wards and sixteen two-councillor wards across the borough.

Parish elections

Elections will be held for all parishes, other than Catcliffe, Orgreave and Waverley parishes. Although there are no changes to parish boundaries, there is a small number of changes to parish wards and the number of seats in Aston cum Aughton, Bramley, Dalton, Dinnington St John’s, Maltby and Wickersley parishes.

South Yorkshire Police & Crime Commissioner election

Electors across South Yorkshire will be asked to vote for who they wish to represent them as the Police and crime commissioner.

Information about the role of the Police & Crime Commissioner can be found on the Choose my PCC website, which will also have information about the candidates available, nearer to the time of the election.

Dinnington St John’s Neighbourhood Planning Referendum

A referendum will be held in the Dinnington St John’s Neighbourhood Planning Referendum to ask electors if they want Rotherham MBC to use the neighbourhood plan for the Dinnington St John’s Neighbourhood Planning Referendum to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

Visit the Dinnington St John’s Neighbourhood Planning Referendum page for more information.

Some wards will have two members (highlighted blue) and some wards will have three members (highlighted green). The number of members a ward has can also be seen by clicking on that ward in the map.
