Elections on 6 May 2021

Work for us on the election

We are in the process of starting the recruitment for staff interested in working at the elections.

We are working hard on plans to ensure measures are put in place to make polling stations safe places to vote and to protect staff during postal vote opening sessions and the count.  This will include social distancing, hand sanitiser and providing staff with face coverings.

To help us run the elections effectively we will need:

  • Presiding Officers and Poll Clerks to work in polling stations.
  • Postal Vote Clerks for the opening and verification of returned postal votes.
  • Counting Assistants to verify and count the votes.

Polling will take place between 7am and 10pm on 6 May 2021.

The votes will be verified on Thursday night, the Borough count will take place on Friday 7 May/Saturday 8 May, Parishes on Sunday 9 May and the Police and Crime Commissioner count will be on Monday 10 May.

We encourage staff to sign-up to a secure web-based self-service tool called Mobile Election App (MEA), which is part of our electoral software.  Using MEA allows staff to conduct several tasks, including:

  1. Maintaining your personal information
  2. Responding to requests for your availability to work at a forthcoming election.
  3. Responding to job allocation requests

How to apply

If you are interested in working on the elections and have not worked for us before, please email election.jobs@rotherham.gov.uk and provide your name, address and postcode.  You will then receive an email with instructions to enable you to create an account within MEA.

Please note - We cannot accept applications from people who are employed by a political party or candidate at the election. We cannot accept applications from anyone who will participate in the election in any way which would affect their impartiality, for example, signing a candidate’s nomination paper, delivering political leaflets or using Social Media to support or criticise political parties and candidates.

Furthermore, we will not accept applications from anyone related or connected to a candidate at the borough elections. However, if it relates to a candidate at the parish elections, please contact us to discuss the situation.
