Ukraine Permission Extension Scheme – Second Phase

The UK Government continues to support people displaced by the war in Ukraine. If you are already living in the UK under one of the Ukraine schemes, you may be able to extend your stay for a further 24 months under the second phase of the Ukraine Permission Extension (UPE) scheme.

Who can apply?

You may apply if you are a Ukrainian national or the family member of a Ukrainian national and you currently have permission to stay in the UK under one of the recognised Ukraine schemes. You must be in the UK when you apply and have continued to live in the UK since your permission was granted.

Second phase extension – what this means

If your original 18-month Ukraine Permission Extension visa is coming to an end, you may be eligible to apply for a further 24 months. This allows eligible people to remain in the UK for up to 3.5 years in total under the UPE scheme, in addition to time already granted under earlier Ukraine schemes.

When to apply

You can apply up to 90 days before your current permission expires. Applying early within this 90-day period will not reduce the length of your new permission. Any remaining time on your current permission will be added to your new visa.

How to apply

Applications must be made online through the official GOV.UK website.  You will need to log in to your UKVI account and complete the Ukraine Permission Extension application form. The application is free of charge.

Apply on the GOV.UK website

What you will need

You may need your passport or Ukrainian identity document, details of your current immigration permission, and access to your UKVI account. Some applicants may be asked to provide biometrics, but not everyone.

After you apply

If you apply before your current permission expires, you can stay in the UK while your application is being decided. If your application is successful, you will receive a further 24 months’ permission, confirmed digitally via your eVisa.

Your rights

If granted, you will continue to have the right to work, rent accommodation, access healthcare, apply for benefits if eligible, and attend education or training.

Please ensure you apply on time to maintain these rights.

Important information

The Ukraine Permission Extension scheme is temporary. Time spent in the UK under Ukraine schemes does not count towards permanent settlement.
