How to apply
You can apply online for a vehicle licence which lasts for up to 12 months. You will need to register for Your Account before you will be able to make your application online.

During the application you will need to:
- Upload a scanned copy, or a photograph, of your V5 registration document (the vehicle's 'log book')
- Upload a scanned copy, or a photograph, of your valid insurance certificate
- Choose a date/time to bring your vehicle in for a compliance test.
- Pay the application fee, which includes the cost of the vehicle compliance test - you will need to have a debit/credit card ready to pay
The vehicle must complete an examination at the council’s nominated inspection facility. The inspection will assess the vehicle for licensing suitability.
Once started the application must be completed within 15 minutes. This should be plenty of time as long as you have all the information above to hand. The details you enter will be automatically saved as you go along.
After 15 minutes, the application form will timeout. You will be able to reopen the application form and should check the information you have already entered before continuing to complete any remaining information.

Renew a licence
You can renew a private hire vehicle licence if your current licence has not expired.
If your licence has expired, you will need to apply for a new licence.
