Gambling Act 2005: Statement of Licensing Policy Review

Background

The Council’s current Gambling Act Statement of Licensing Policy was approved and adopted by full Council in 2020.

The policy enables the Council to licence gambling establishments and set conditions within which operators need to operate to conduct their business lawfully. This provides an opportunity to influence the sector and minimise where possible, the harm that might be caused by problem gambling.

The policy assists in promoting the three licensing objectives:

  • preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime;
  • ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way; and
  • protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
