1. What is Selective Licensing and how does it affect me as a tenant?
Selective Licensing is a scheme that requires landlords in certain areas to obtain a licence before renting out properties. It ensures homes meet safety and management standards, helping protect tenants from poor housing conditions.
2. Which areas will be covered by the new scheme?
If approved, the scheme will cover Rotherham town centre, Eastwood, Clifton, Boston Castle, Masbrough, Kimberworth, Thurcroft, Dinnington, Brinsworth, and Parkgate.
3. How will this improve my living conditions?
The previous scheme, running from 2020-2025, led to the removal of over 8,000 hazards and improved conditions for 1,470 households. The new scheme aims to continue this work, making homes safer and healthier.
4. What should I do if my rented property is in poor condition?

5. Will this scheme increase my rent?
The Council has taken steps to reduce costs for responsible landlords to help avoid rent increases. However, rent decisions are ultimately made by individual landlords.
