More homes will be delivered across the borough as part of Rotherham Council’s ambitious Housing Delivery Programme.

The Council has pledged to deliver 1,000 new high-quality homes across the borough by either building new homes, or through acquiring properties from a range of sources, including private developers and the open market.

Since June 2024, 65 new homes have been delivered for Council rent or shared ownership, taking the total to 630 new Council homes since January 2018.

A further 102 homes are already under construction or in the process of being purchased. The Council has the sites and projects identified to deliver hundreds more Council homes, and expects to meet its commitment to deliver 1,000 new Council homes across the borough by summer 2027.

The Council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve updates to the Housing Delivery Programme, which looks to address the continuing need for more affordable homes across the borough, when it meets on Monday 10 February.

If approved, an additional three schemes will be added to the housing programme, delivering homes through strategic acquisitions from volume housebuilders as part of their planning obligations under the Council’s Affordable Housing Policy.

Councillor Sarah Allen, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “In 2018 we made a commitment to support our residents with their housing needs by providing more affordable and high-quality council homes for local people to rent.

“Seven years on, we are proud that we have been able to offer a range of properties either through social housing, private sale or shared ownership.

“However, with over 7,200 households currently on our Housing Register and the level of demand continuing to rise, it’s vital we continue to work at pace to ensure more residents have a safe, secure place to call home.”

The properties delivered or acquired since June 2024 include:

  • Seven homes in Infirmary Road, Parkgate as part of the Council’s Small Sites Homebuilding Initiative.
  • Fourteen homes in the Brecks Lane, in Brecks.
  • Two homes at the North Farm Close, in Harthill.
  • Two homes at the Thornberry Gardens, in Dinnington.
  • Fifteen homes in Waverley.
  • Five homes in Kirkstead Gardens, in Thorpe Hesley.
