Council starts children’s residential recruitment drive

Children's residential homes

Around 30 new jobs will be created to support some of Rotherham’s most vulnerable children as part of a significant investment in children’s residential care.

Rotherham Council has already successfully opened three children’s residential homes since February 2020, which enables local homes to be provided for up to eight children. All the homes opened so far have been rated by Ofsted as Good.

Following agreement by the Council’s Cabinet last week, work is already in progress to create an additional four small, family-based homes as well as emergency accommodation. This investment will bring the total number of children’s residential homes in the borough to nine, with a combined capacity for homes for up to 18 children.

Increasing the number of local in-house children’s residential care homes will allow Rotherham’s children that need to be looked after by the Council to remain close to family, friends and local schools, which is better for their wellbeing.

The Council is actively recruiting for a range of roles, including full-time and casual children’s residential practitioners, emergency response practitioners and residential home managers.

Simon Breeds, Children’s Residential Operations Manager at Rotherham Council said: “The Council is making a substantial investment in high-quality children’s residential care homes in Rotherham and we’re looking for people who want to make a positive difference to the lives of looked-after children in our borough.

“Our homes are great places to live - and great places to work. They provide a warm nurturing homely feel and provide a safe, caring and stable environment for Rotherham young people to live and grow – we need caring, positive and skilled adults to work with them.

“We’d like to hear from adults from all different backgrounds to make sure we give all our young people a diverse support package. We offer a competitive package and the opportunity to develop your career.”

Further information about working in children’s residential care with Rotherham Council is available on the children's residential recruitment website.

Anyone who has enquiries about the roles available should email simon.breeds@rotherham.gov.uk
