Parking buddies promote road safety in Aston

Ward Councillors in Aston and Todwick Ward have used their Community Leadership Fund to purchase parking buddies outside Aston Hall Junior and Infant School.

The parking buddies are usually placed outside schools on the road as reminders to road users to slow down near places frequented by children. The intervention was a result of a serious road accident in the area last year which involved one of the school’s pupils, thankfully now recovered, and wanted to help prevent similar accidents. Councillors agreed that they would like to help slow local traffic down in what can be a busy time around school drop off and pick up times as parents commute to and from work.

Messages are displayed on the parking buddies, including ‘think before you park’ and ‘children crossing, slow down’.

This helps to support the Aston and Todwick Ward priority around developing and supporting initiatives around road safety. You can view the Ward priorities in full at Aston and Todwick Ward.

Councillor Joshua Bacon, Ward Councillor for Aston and Todwick Ward, said: “The parking buddies are a way to encourage parents and visitors to drive and park safely when close to the school.

“We hope the buddies will make the road safer for our young children.”
