Harthill Road Closures

Several road works will be carried out by various external companies in Harthill this summer.

Severn Trent: Flood Protection Scheme

Severn Trent will also be completing their Flood Protection Sewer project in Harthill this summer. Although work for this project began last year, due to site complications this project could not be completed at the time. Severn Trent will begin the works the week commencing Monday 24 July 2023 and expect the work to be completed within two weeks.

To find out more about the work Severn Trent is carrying out, please visit the Severn Trent website.

As high levels of disruption will be expected, the Council is working with the utility companies to coordinate and schedule the works taking place for the safety of each workforce and road users.

Northern Powergrid: Investment Works

Northern Powergrid (NPg) will be installing new underground electricity cables between its substation on Hard Lane at Kiveton Park and the northbound M1 Woodall Services, working along a route through Harthill and Woodall that includes Hard Lane, Union Street, Woodall Lane and Killamarsh Lane. The work is being carried out by Balfour Beatty on Northern Powergrid’s behalf.

This work will ensure the local power network has enough capacity to support future demand as the population grows and more electricity is needed to power homes, businesses, and transport. It will also deliver additional capacity to boost the electric vehicle charging provision at Woodall Services.

The work will take place between early August 2023 and approximately the end of April 2024 and will require several road closures, with these taking place in phases to minimise disruption as much as possible through the two villages. The diversion routes will be clearly set out to ensure access is maintained to both villages for residents and businesses.

The Canal and River Trust is also completing work on private land nearby on Woodall Lane which will mean a section of Northern Powergrid’s work will be undertaken early next year. Please note Woodall Lane will be closed from Union Street to below Prior Meade before the end of the year.

To find out more about the work Northern Powergrid is undertaking, please visit their Northern Powergrid website.

Northern Powergrid and Balfour Beatty have consulted with Council services to ensure bin collections won’t be interrupted. If you live in the area and your bin hasn’t been collected, you can report a missed bin collection.

Newett Homes Development: Utility Companies

Express Utilities is installing gas, electric, and water connections to the Newett Homes development site under a planned road closure on Saturday 24 June and Sunday 25 June.

Network Plus is working on behalf of Yorkshire Water to install a new water main connection under the same road closure to minimise disruption ensuring the road will only be closed for one weekend.

Signage will be in place at the location.

Bus and School Transport Services

South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) bring together all useful travel information into one place and their Travel South Yorkshire website, which makes it easier for people in our communities to plan their journeys and keep up to date with the latest changes.

Information will also be available by calling Traveline on 01709 51 51 51 (weekdays between 7:00am and 7:00pm and at weekends between 8:00am and 7:00pm).
