Why are we updating our Walking, Wheeling and Cycling Strategy?
- We create strategies to guide how to deliver programmes across the council, from time to time strategies need to be updated to ensure they still reflect the needs of the borough.
- Investing in our infrastructure affects everyone in our community, no matter how short the journey
- Giving people choices in how they travel for short journeys means less reliance on cars and taxis – which saves people money, reduces our carbon footprint and helps us live healthier for longer.
- Less cars travelling short distances also means less traffic for when we do chose to drive, or need to rely on a car to get from place to place.
- The type of schemes we are able to deliver are dependent on funding from the Department for Transport and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority – these outline requirements set out by national and regional policy agendas. South Yorkshire has an ambition to be the best place in the country to walk, wheel and cycle.
- Delivering on these agendas helps us prove we are worth investment for bigger schemes such as the Rotherham mainline station.
