Financial Support and Advice for Kinship Carers

Some kinship carers will be eligible for an allowance from Children’s Services. Others may be able to claim benefits for their kinship child, or make arrangements with the child’s parents.

Financial allowance

Our policy on which kinship families are eligible for an allowance and how the allowance is calculated is set out within the Kinship Care Policy. We use the DfE’s Standardised Means Test Model to calculate our allowances and these are set using the National Fostering Allowance. This model is attached as an appendix to our practice guidance, which is due to be published on our Local Safeguarding Partnership procedures hosted by Tri-X by end of July 2025.
