Support groups for kinship carers and families

There are a range of support groups that will be able to offer you more informal support and advice:

Carer and child meetups

A monthly group for primary school aged children and their carers. This is held at The Big Apple Play Centre (Old Sheffield Road, Canklow, Rotherham, S60 1DE) on Wednesdays, 4pm to 6pm.

Rotherham Council pay for each child to eat, and you pay a reduced entry fee. Non-Kinship children living within the family are also welcome.

Carer coffee morning and support group

A monthly meet-up held for carers only. Guest speakers are sometimes booked in to share advice and information.

It is held 10am to 12pm on a Thursday at The Community Room (up the stairs near the kiosk), Tesco Extra, Drummond St, Rotherham S65 1HY

It is a safe space to meet other carers and chat to staff about any worries and difficulties.

Annual summer picnic

This is a family friendly event the Council runs every year to try and get as many kinship carers and their blended families together.

It is held at Clifton Park as this is central for everyone to get to. Guests bring their own picnics and their own games if they want to. There are also games and treats available for the kids. An alternative venue is available to provide shelter in case of bad weather.

Rotherham Kinship Support Group

Meet other kinship carers, make new friends, find support and guidance through shared experiences.

Open to all kinship carers.

This support group is held from 10am to 12pm on a Tuesday at The Place Family Hub, Coleridge road, S65 1LW.
