The birth of a baby must be registered within 42 days of the date of birth. You need to make an appointment to do this.
The birth must be registered in the district where the baby was born, even if you live in a different district. You can choose to go to another Register Office in England or Wales to register the birth. If you do this, they will send the details to the office in the district where the birth took place.
If the parents were married to each other when the baby was born, either parent can register the birth.
Both parents should attend the Register Office together if, they were not married to each other when the baby was born and the father's details are to be included in the register.
The Register Office is in Riverside House, open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
