You can now register a birth via a two-step process. The initial information will be taken via a telephone appointment and you will be given the opportunity to pre-order any birth certificates required for your baby at the statutory fee of £11.00 per certificate. You will need to make a credit or debit card payment for these over the phone. Once you have completed your telephone appointment, a second short appointment to attend the Register Office in Riverside House to sign the register and collect any certificates will be made for you. This will be later on the same day, please bear this in mind when making your booking online.
If you are a couple who were married or in a civil partnership at the time of the birth only one parent needs to complete the telephone appointment and face to face appointment with the registrar. The same parent must complete both parts.
If you weren’t married or in a civil partnership at the time of the birth and both parents are to be recorded in the register, you will both need to be available for the telephone appointment and will need to attend Riverside House at the same time to sign the entry. The telephone appointment can be done by a telephone conference if parents live separately or have work commitments. If parents do live separately the face to face appointment will be completed in line with social distancing guidelines throughout.
