Where the baby’s parents are married or in a civil partnership at the time of the birth only one parent needs to attend to complete the registration of the birth. Where parents are not married to each other at the time of the birth and the father’s details are to be recorded in the register – both parents will need to attend to register.
A Registration Officer will call you the day before your appointment to confirm your attendance and give you the opportunity to order any birth certificates required at the statutory fee of £11 per certificate. A full birth certificate is needed for passport applications or to set up a bank account for your child. If you miss this call you will still be able to purchase certificates at your appointment.
Please note payment for certificates is by credit or debit card only.
If you wish to order certificates at a later date you can order these online once the birth has been registered at the same statutory cost of £11. Different postage options for certificates ordered later are detailed online and may incur a small additional charge depending on the option selected. This is currently £2.35
