Homelessness: Advice for social housing tenants

Council tenants

If you are a Council Tenant with Rotherham Council, please use the below information to help answer your queries if you feel worried about losing your home.

If you are a Council tenant and you decide to end your tenancy before approaching us for help, we may not be able to assist you, as you could have made yourself intentionally homeless. It is important that you speak to the Homeless Team before you make any decisions.

Rent arrears

If you are having difficulty paying your rent, or have already missed a payment, please contact us straight away on01709 336009. Rent payments are a priority debt and the sooner you get in touch, the more likely it is that we can make an arrangement and avoid any further recovery action. You can find help and advice on rent arrears on our website.

Anti-social behaviour

If you are experiencing anti-social behaviour, it is important that you speak to your Area Housing Officer who can offer you advice on the situation. You can contact your Area Housing Officer on01709 336009.

Eviction

If you have received written notice that we intend to evict you, then it is important that you contact the team on the letter to discuss it with them further. If you are in arrears, you may be able to set up a payment plan. If the eviction is because of anti-social behaviour, then we can discuss the eviction notice with you. We may be able to work with you to ensure that you stay in your home.

You can contact the Income Team or your Area Housing Officer on01709 336009.

Guide to your home

If you have any queries about your tenancy, your rights as a tenant, repairs that we can do and how we expect tenants to treat other tenants, then you can get this information on the Guide to Your Home booklet.
