Keeping or training animals for exhibition

You'll need a licence if you keep or train animals for exhibition. This can be for entertainment or educational purposes, to an audience or via electronic media.

This licence covers animals used in but is not limited to: 

  • Theatre
  • Films or TV
  • A circus if they're domestic animals, such as cats and dogs
  • Mobile animal exhibits that visit schools
  • Weddings or private partiee
  • Fairs
  • Pony parties where the ponies are not ridden
  • Other events where an audience are present.

We may authorise an officer to inspect a licence premise before a licence can be issued.

Apply for a licence

This is a chargeable service and you will be required to make payment before you can submit yourr application. 

The charge applied to keeping or training animals for exhibition is £357.00

To complete you application you will need to have: 

  • Your insurance details
  • Details of the animals in your care
  • Details of any performances, including the times and durations of the events
  • Your emergency keyholders details

If you are renewing an existing licence you will also need:

  • You existing licence number 
  • The name of the local authority that granted your licence
