Our Places Fund

In 2024, the Council reaffirmed its commitment to keep every neighbourhood thriving by approving major investment in local areas as part of the Our Places Fund.

Borough-wide consultation with residents identified key priorities for improvement. This included enhancing the surroundings of cenotaphs and memorials and upgrading public spaces to make them more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Phase One

Development of Our Places Fund Phase One is currently underway which includes schemes in Maltby and Swinton.

An extensive programme of public realm improvements will be undertaken along Maltby High Street which will focus on enhancing the overall street scene with new paving, green spaces and wayfinding.

Works are underway in Swinton which include the addition of an under-fives play area alongside public realm improvements, incorporating upgraded paving, and enhanced pedestrian access to the High Street. This forms part of a wider Regeneration programme for Swinton which has included to date the demolition of the old Library, refurbishment of the old customer service building into a new modern Library, a refurbished Civic Hall and upgraded cafe along with 49 new homes.

Phase Two

Our Places Fund Phase Two improvements will focus on the following areas:

  • Greasbrough, Dinnington, Treeton, Wentworth and Thrybergh

Honouring Rotherham’s history and heritage, areas around cenotaphs, memorials and monuments in Greasbrough, Dinnington, Treeton, Wentworth and Thrybergh.

Based on feedback from the public consultation carried out in January/February, work is now being planned with further details to follow shortly.

  • Rawmarsh and Parkgate

Plans to enhance the public spaces on Rawmarsh High Street and in Parkgate have been progressed following feedback from local residents gathered during the Our Places Fund consultation in early 2026.

The proposed improvements will help create more inviting and attractive spaces and will include:

  • New seating
  • Tree and bulb planting
  • New security bollards
  • Pavement art
  • Resurfacing of the Car Park off Hollybush Street in Parkgate

Join the conversation and view and comment on the plans at our in-person consultation event: Wednesday 22 July, 3pm to 6pm, Rawmarsh High Street Centre, S62 6LN.

Alternatively, complete the consultation online.

  • Swallownest

Shaped by local community feedback gathered in early 2026, plans have been developed to transform the underused green space on Gray Avenue in Swallownest into a new public space. The proposals respond to local concerns about anti-social behaviour with an aim to create a safer, more welcoming environment for the community.

Join the conversation and view and comment on the plans at our in-person consultation event: Thursday 23 July, 3pm to 6pm, Aston-Cum-Aughton Parish Hall, Rosegarth Avenue, S26 2DD.

Alternatively, complete the consultation online.
