Air Quality management
We have a statutory duty to manage local air quality in Rotherham under the Environment Act 1995. Poorer air quality tends to occur near busy, congested roads where traffic emissions cause air pollution, although pollution from other sources needs to be checked as well. These areas of poorer air quality are called air quality management areas.
We have been mandated by the Government to develop a Clean Air Zone plan with Sheffield City Council
