Garden Waste Service Update – October 2025

Due to ongoing staffing pressures, the garden waste collections will take place once every four weeks until the end of the subscription period on Friday 20 February 2026.

This change helps us maintain the reliability of our core waste services.

We understand this has caused inconvenience and we apologise for the disruption.

Because this isn’t the standard of service we committed to, as a goodwill gesture we will be discounting £10 from next year’s bill for everyone who subscribes for next year’s service. If you decide not to re-subscribe, you will be able to request a £10 refund.

Please do not contact us about this yet. We will provide you with more information about the discount/claiming a refund when we write to you with details of next year’s garden waste subscription.

You can also check which collection week you are on by checking the sticker on your bin or by checking the collection calendars.

Please check the website before contacting Customer Services, as this will help reduce call volumes and ensure staff can support those who need additional help.

Common questions about Garden Waste Collections

  • Why has my garden waste collection been reduced? - Due to ongoing staffing pressures, the service has moved to its winter collection service – one collection every four week.  This helps us maintain core waste services while managing resources. We are prioritising household waste and recycling collections while working to reintroduce garden waste collections.
  • When will the full service resume? - We’re continuing to work hard to ensure the service can resume after the end of the subscription period on Friday 20 February 2026.
  • Will I still be charged the same? - As a goodwill gesture we will be giving a £10 discount if you subscribe for next year’s service. If you decide not to re-subscribe, you will be able to request a £10 refund. Please do not contact us about this yet. We will provide you with more information about the discount/claiming a refund when we write to you with details of next year’s garden waste subscription by the end of the year.
  • Why wasn’t I informed earlier? - We’ve worked quickly to find a solution and are now able to provide a clear update. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
  • I’ve lost my bin calendar, how do I know when to put my bin out? - Please check the Council website for the updated bin collection schedules or download the Rotherham Bins App.
