A Guide to School Transport and Travel

Primary aged learners (5 to 10 years)

All children living within the Rotherham borough aged between five and 10 years old can use public transport within South Yorkshire at a rate of 80p per single journey.

If your child is attending a primary school or academy and is aged between five and 11 years old; free transport assistance may be available. For example:

  • If your child is aged between five and seven years and the distance to their qualifying school is more than two miles
  • If your child is aged between eight and 11 years old and the distance to their qualifying school is more than three miles
  • If your child is over eight years old and is in receipt of free school meals and is more than two miles from their qualifying school

However, if your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) your child's individual transport needs will be assessed and suitable transport assistance may be recommended.
