Dispersed Accommodation

Dispersed accommodation means living in your own flat or house in the community, with support visiting you when you need it. It is a step towards full independence.

What dispersed accommodation means

  • You will live on your own in a self‑contained flat or house.
  • You will have a licence agreement, which sets out the rules you must follow. This includes rules about visitors.
  • You will have your own front door. Most properties are one‑bedroom flats or small houses managed by the council or a housing provider.
  • You will get regular visits from a support worker, as well as check‑ins from your PA.
  • You will be responsible for your own bills, shopping and day‑to‑day living.
  • If things go well, you may be able to take over the tenancy in the future.
  • Your PA will make sure you have an emergency contact number if you need urgent help.

Who it is for

Dispersed accommodation is suitable for:

  • young people who are nearly ready to live independently but still want some support
  • care leavers who want to try managing their own tenancy before moving into permanent housing

The support you will get

You will get regular visits from support staff to help with:

  • budgeting, paying rent and managing bills
  • understanding your tenancy rights and responsibilities
  • cooking, cleaning and managing your home
  • staying safe and looking after your wellbeing
  • keeping up with education, training or work

You will also agree a move‑on plan so you know what your next steps will look like.

Safety and suitability

You will never be placed somewhere unsafe or unsuitable.

Before you move in, your PA will:

  • arrange for you to visit the accommodation
  • help you look around the area
  • make sure you feel comfortable and informed

You will always have a say in whether the property feels right for you.
