Supported Lodgings
Supported lodgings is when you rent a room in someone’s home. The person you live with is called a host. You will be treated as an adult lodger.
All hosts are assessed, checked and trained to make sure they have the right skills and values. We only use hosts who can offer a safe and supportive place to live.
What supported lodgings means
- You will have your own bedroom in the host’s home.
- You will share other areas, such as the kitchen and living room.
- Your host will support you with budgeting, cooking, staying safe, managing appointments and day‑to‑day living.
- You can stay for a short period or longer term.
- Your PA will work with you on a move‑on plan when you are ready for your next step.
Who it is for
Supported lodgings is suitable for:
- young people aged 16 to 21 who want more independence but still need support
- young people who are not ready for fully independent housing but do not need foster care
Support you will get from your host
Your host will help you with:
- life skills such as cooking, shopping, budgeting and cleaning
- building routines and keeping up with college, training or work
- emotional support and encouragement when things feel difficult
- advice on friendships, relationships and staying safe
- providing a stable home where you can grow in confidence
How placements are decided
- You will meet the host before moving in to see if it feels right for you.
- You will always have a say in the decision.
- We will only offer placements that are safe and suitable.
How long you can stay
Most young people stay until age 21. Sometimes you can stay longer if this is agreed.
The aim is to help you build the skills and confidence you need to move into your own home.
