Overview of improvements carried out in 2023:
An improved schedule of grounds maintenance has now been employed on site, this includes keeping the main pathways clear and vegetation cut back to allow year-round access. Green pathways are also being cut through the centre of the site to allow access to some of the graves. All works are carried out sympathetically to the rich biodiversity found on site.
A project to uncover the original Victorian cobble paths around the perimeter of the site is well underway and should be complete in 2024. This has transformed the look of the site and improved access.
Maintenance work began on the Council retained boundaries in November. This will include maintenance work to the iron railings, repair works to the entrance wall, rebuilding of the boundary wall with the churchyard, and the installation of a boundary fence and new path along the bottom of the site.

Dignity Funerals Ltd are producing a Five Year Plan of maintenance and Improvements for all municipal cemeteries in Rotherham managed by them on behalf of the Council. This will be presented at the Improving Places Select Committee on 25 October 2022 alongside the Annual Performance Report and Annual Bereavement Services Report.
General Information
This cemetery was opened on the 9 of July 1861. This site is closed for any new interments and work has commenced on helping preserve this cemetery along with protecting the biodiversity and green space nature of the site.

Emergency Out of Hours Contact
For issues or situations relating to any of the cemeteries or the crematorium, please call the Dignity Rotherham Office phone number on 01709 850344. If no one is available in the office, your call will automatically transfer to Dignity’s Central Contact Centre, you may experience a few minutes hold time. Dignity aim to answer all calls as soon as possible.
Bereavement Services
The Council has retained the responsibility for some of the boundaries at High Street Cemetery.
Bereavement Services manages the performance of the Dignity contract.
