Improving Places Select Commission on Tuesday 12 December 2023, 1.30 p.m. - Rotherham Council

Overview of improvements carried out in 2023:

The roads and pathways renewal project was successfully completed. This provided much needed new tarmac surfaces applying to the main driveway and subsidiary roads, and many of the pathways throughout the site. New pathways have also been created. This has greatly improved safe access and improved the overall appearance of the site.

A retaining wall has been added to the boundary along the children’s area of the site. This was required to retain a build up of earth from the adjoining residential properties. New sections of fencing have also been installed along the top of the wall to provide improved privacy for cemetery users.

Major ground works have been undertaken in the Muslim section of the site, to improve drainage and safe access in the area. Several precast burial chambers have also been installed to provide future provision for the Muslim community.

2022

Updated 22/08/2022

Dignity Funerals Ltd are producing a Five Year Plan of maintenance and Improvements for all municipal cemeteries in Rotherham managed by them on behalf of the Council. This will be presented at the Improving Places Select Committee on 25 October 2022 alongside the Annual Performance Report and Annual Bereavement Services Report. Please follow this link Agenda for Improving Places Select Commission on Tuesday 25 October 2022, 1.30 p.m. - Rotherham Council for further information.

Significant developments are underway to improve the drainage system in the area adjacent to the left hand side of the driveway down to the crematorium. Although there will be some disruption during the necessary improvements taking place, contractors will keep this to a minimum where possible and no work will be carried out or machinery used during any burials in that area of the cemetery.

Dignity have provided a full update as to different improvements underway at East Herringthorpe Cemetery
