Managing Rent Arrears and Rent Increases

Rent Arrears

  • Talk to your tenant if they miss rent. They might have had a change in circumstances.
  • Agree on a repayment plan they can afford to clear the arrears over time.
  • If they can't afford rent now, plan for future payments when their situation improves.
  • Discuss benefits and guide them to apply for Universal Credit. You can request their rent payment from Universal Credit be paid directly to you.

Rent Increases

  • Follow the tenancy agreement, usually allowing one increase per year with proper notice.
  • Check local rent prices to ensure your increase is fair and reasonable.
