Breathing Space

The Breathing Space scheme can help if you are struggling by freezing payment demands and legal action while you get free debt advice. You can only be put on the Breathing Space scheme by a regulated debt advisor, such as from StepChange, Citizens Advice or National Debtline. A mental health provider can also apply for mental health crisis breathing space on your behalf, which will be reviewed by the charity Rethink.

The Advocacy & Appeals Service can give free advice and help you to draw up an income and budget plan, understand your priority payments and help you repayment offers or find a suitable debt solution. They can represent you in court on some issues, if your money problems are caused by a loss of benefit, they can help you to challenge and appeal the award you have been given.
