Eligibility criteria and requirements

You can apply for a dropped kerb (vehicle access crossing) in front of your driveway to be lowered for easier access to your property.

If you do not own your home or the land it is on, you should contact the owner about your plans to install a dropped kerb before taking further steps.

The Council can install a dropped kerb for you, or you can use your own contractor but they must be properly licensed to do the work.

Private owned property

Should you reside in a private owned property, then please provide an approval reference number to confirm you have received planning permission if the property leads to a classified A, B or C road.

If you are not sure if your road is classified, please visit Find My Address.

Should you choose an alternative contractor not provided within the form, you must provide:

  1. Copies of the contractor’s ‘Street Works Qualification Register’ cards (Operative and Supervisor).
  2. The contractors’ name, address, telephone numbers and email address.
  3. Evidence of the contractors’ public liability insurance certificate to the value of five million pounds (£5,000,000).

Council owned property

Should you reside in a Council owned property, you will need to provide the following:

  1. An approval reference number to confirm you have received permission for a hard standing / driveway.
  2. A copy of the ‘General conditions for alterations, improvements and installations to Council properties’ form showing council approval.
