Apply for a dropped kerb on a council or private owned property
Application criteria, terms, and conditions
Application Requirement
All applicants must complete and submit the official Dropped Kerb Application Form.
Applications must be submitted by the property owner or with written consent from the property owner.
Non-Refundable Administration Fee
A non-refundable administration fee of £140.00 is required before the application will be processed.
Payment must be made in full at the time of submission. Applications without payment will not be considered.
Eligibility Criteria
The property must have sufficient space to accommodate off-road parking, this must be a suitably surfaced parking area measuring a minimum of 2.5 by 5m.
The proposed access must not compromise highway safety or contravene planning regulations.
Applications may be refused if the location is deemed unsuitable due to visibility, proximity to junctions, or other safety concerns.
Planning Permission
In some cases, planning permission may be required. It is the applicant’s responsibility to obtain this prior to applying for a dropped kerb.
Where planning approval is required for the installation of a vehicle access crossing, no application fee will be payable against the vehicle access crossing application.
Site Inspection
A site inspection will be carried out by a council officer to assess the suitability of the proposed location.
The inspection will only be scheduled once the administration fee has been received.
Qualified Contractors
If approved, the construction of the dropped kerb must be carried out by a contractor from the Council’s approved list, or a suitably accredited contractor not on the Council’s approved list.
The applicant is responsible for arranging and funding the construction work.
No Guarantee of Approval
Submission of an application and payment of the fee does not guarantee approval.
The Council reserves the right to reject applications that do not meet the required criteria.
Validity
Approved applications are valid for 12 months from the date of approval. If work is not completed within this period, a new application may be required.
Damage and Liability
The Council accepts no liability for damage to private property during the construction of the dropped kerb.
The applicant is responsible for any damage caused to public infrastructure during the works.
Appeals
There is no formal appeal process. However, applicants may request a review if they believe the decision was made in error.
