What is a dropped kerb
A dropped kerb is a section of pavement where the edge has been lowered to allow vehicles to drive over it safely. It provides easier access from the road to a driveway and also helps people using wheelchairs, pushchairs, or bicycles to cross the street more easily.
To install a dropped kerb, you must have a suitable hardstanding - a properly constructed surface where you can park your vehicle off the road.

What counts as a suitable hardstanding
Your hardstanding must be made from one of the following:
- tarmac
- concrete
- block paving
- stone, with at least 1 metre of hard surface directly next to the footway
This ensures the area is safe, durable, and suitable for vehicle use.
