Selective Licensing 1st May 2020 to April 2025

Areas subject to selective licensing

Rotherham has six designated areas where selective licensing will apply from 1st May 2020 to private landlords. The designations will come into force on 1 May 2020 and will last for 5 years. Private Landlords who are not exempt from selective licensing, must hold a licence for the 2020/25 scheme from this date or they commit an offence.

In addition to the offence, landlords who let properties within these areas and apply for a licence after the 31st October 2020, when their property was licensable on the 1st May 2020 or if a property fails to license within 12 weeks of it becoming licensable after the 31st October 2020, will be subject to a Late Licence Fee of £136.00 payable with the application fee. (£68+£136=£204)

In addition to the offence, landlords who let properties within these areas and apply for a licence more than 12 weeks after their properties become licensable will attract a further £136 penalty charge on the cost of the Licence Application.
