About the garden waste service
Our brown bin service lets Rotherham residents have their garden waste collected from the kerbside all year round.
With our garden waste service you get 20 collections over the year. These are fortnightly for most of the year, dropping to monthly over the winter.
The collection period for the current year is 1 March 2021 to 25 February 2022.
You’ll receive a bin sticker and a calendar showing your collection days when you subscribe. You can also find out your collection day and download a PDF calendar online.
£5 discount for renewals
We’ve kept the prices the same as last year – so the annual subscription is £40 for the first brown bin, and £31 for an additional bin. (Please note - we are unable to offer part year subscriptions.)
If you used the service in 2020/21 and renew for 2021/22, you’ll receive a £5 discount (per household). This is because of the disruption to the service during 2020, due to COVID-19. This brings down the cost down to £35 for the first bin for 2021/22.
The discount will be applied automatically when you renew. If you paid by Direct Debit £5 will have been automatically deducted from the total fee collected on 1 February 2021.
If you don't want to renew, you’ll be able to apply for a £5 refund (per household). Further information will be available in March 2021, after the 2020/21 collections have ended. Arrangements will be made to collect your unwanted bin.
When you sign up for our garden waste service, you’ll receive a welcome pack containing:
- a bin sticker to show you’ve paid
- your collections calendar.
You can also find your collection dates online.
If you don’t already have one of our brown bins, we’ll deliver one to you.
To get your brown bin emptied, leave it at the kerbside by 7am on the day of collection.
We recommend storing brown bins securely between collections, as the permits are valuable.
