Parkgate link road and park & ride

A simple map of roads around Parkgate highlighting the propsed changes

Congestion on the A633 is being eased by a new link road and footway from Aldwarke Lane into Parkgate Shopping Park and a new 289-space park & ride facility with EV car-charging for the Parkgate Tram-Train terminus.

These schemes improve bus reliability and journey times in the area by providing a more accessible route into Parkgate Shopping Park for residents in the north and east of Rotherham and by reducing traffic volumes on the A633.

The link road opened in December 2024 with bus operators reporting improved bus journey time reliability.

The park and ride is due to open in spring 2025.

They are delivered by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) with money secured from the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund and City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements (CRSTS).
