Flood Recovery Support Payments

Financial support for residents

The Council is providing financial support to help residents impacted by Storm Babet.

The Flood Recovery Support Payment scheme has now closed.

Council tax discount

For residents who were affected by the flooding but remained in the property are entitled to a 100% Council Tax discount from the date of the flood until 31 March 2024. A Council Tax bill was issued to residents in March 2024 for their Council Tax for the financial year 2024/25 onwards explaining the payments which they should make.

Those residents who have not yet returned to their flooded properties, but intend to do so, will continue to receive a 100% Council Tax discount for their flooded property from the date of the flood as well as a 100% Council Tax discount on any temporary accommodation for which they are liable for Council Tax. A Council Tax bill was issued to these residents in March 2024 for the current financial year 2024/25 detailing the discounts which were being applied.

Contents insurance for housing tenants

Please call 01709 336009 option 3, for housing tenants. An advisor will be able to take your information and pass on a content insurance claim.

We would advise anyone who has previously been affected by flooding to consider taking necessary precautions, keep a close watch on weather updates and follow the advice provided.

Property flood resilience grant

The Council has opened a property flood resilience grant for residents and businesses whose property experienced flood damage because of Storm Babet in October 2023. This funding is used to help make properties better protected against future flooding. Click here for more details, including how to apply.
