Property Flood Resilience Grant

Eligibility

Properties must have been affected internally by flood waters in October 2023.

Eligible properties are:
  • Residential properties that flooded in liveable areas
    • This includes Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) and blocks of flats. Please note that HMOs and blocks of flats will be treated as one property.
    • This includes properties where the local authority acts as the landlord.
  • Businesses (including social enterprises), charitable organisations and educational establishments properties where internal areas of the premises which are critical to day-today operations have been damaged.
  • Holiday lets that operated as a business, where non-domestic rates are paid.
  • Bed and Breakfast properties where the owner lives on site as their primary residence and pays domestic or non-domestic rates or both.
Non-eligible properties include those which:
  • Flooded only in garages, outhouses, or storage areas.
  • Second homes.
  • Empty homes.
  • Holiday cottages which are not part of a commercial enterprise and are not the principal residence of the owner.
  • Flooded only in basements or cellars that are not used as part of the habitual or business area of the property.
  • Received property flood resilience grants in any previous year.
Council Housing Properties

Council housing properties which meet the eligibility criteria will receive grant funding. Housing Property Services will be overseeing flood resilience work to all Council housing properties which are eligible for the grant. Housing Property Services are aware of these properties so Council tenants do not need to apply.
