Property Flood Resilience Grant

FAQs

When will the grant funding be paid out?
  • Grant funding is only paid out upon completion of the work to install flood resilience measures.
Does the grant cover the cost of a survey?

The grant allows for:

  • A maximum of £500 for flood resilience survey.
  • A maximum of £4,500 for flood resilience measure to be put in place.
Can I claim the grant for work completed by myself?
  • No. The grant is only eligible for work completed by a registered company. Claims cannot be made for work completed by an individual on their own property or business.
My property was surveyed due to previous flooding, but I did not proceed with implementing flood resilience measures, do I need a new survey?
  • If you had a survey completed in 2019 or at another time, it is likely that this survey can be used, and a new survey will not be needed.
Can I spend more than £5,000 on flood resilience to my property and still claim the grant?
  • Yes, the survey and works can total more than £5,000 however any costs above £5,000 will need to be funded separately to the grant, for example, by the owner of the property. The flood resilience survey at your property may recommend measures exceeding the total value of the flood resilience grant.
If I undertake a survey, do I need to proceed with works?
  • No. You may undertake a survey and then decide not to proceed with works.
 What is a community scheme?
  • A community scheme is where properties work together on collective resilience measures which improve the community’s overall resilience. Community schemes require all (grant-eligible) property owners in an area – such as a single street - to agree to contribute their grants to collective resilience measures. The Council will need to investigate the feasibility of community schemes on a case by case basis.
Who is responsible for the upkeep of the of the flood resilience measures – such as a flood wall – after they have been installed?
  • Responsibility for the operation and maintenance of property flood resilience measures rests with the property owner or tenant.
I received Grant in Aid (GiA) funding but have since been flooded. Can I still apply for the property flood resilience grant?
  • If you received GiA funding, you can still apply for the property flood resilience grant for NEW resilience measures but the funding cannot be used to replace damaged measures that were funded by GiA.
Can I claim the grant if my property is uninsured?
  • Yes, uninsured properties are eligible for the grant.
