Dinnington

We are seeking your input regarding improvements to the medieval cross and the immediate surrounding area, located on Church Lane and Laughton Road in Dinnington.

Improvements could include cleaning and restoring the broken steps and railing, limiting parking around the memorial, creating a seating space and adding greenery.

We have provided some examples and ideas on this page. Whilst not all features may be possible to include, we would like to hear your views on the improvements.

Dinnington Cenotaph

A map of the area around the Dinnington Cenotaph with the Cenotaph area greyed out.

Potential intervention 1

Potential to repair or replace the broken step and replace the missing section of railing.

Existing

A broken step around the Cenotaph with a black railing with a section missing.

Potential intervention 2

Potential to remove the existing benches. The new seating area could incorporate ornamental planting which acts as a central design feature to celebrate the memorial.

Existing

A brown wooden bench with a black footer in front of the Cenotaph.

Example of improvement

A curved brown wooden bench with greenery behind it.

Potential intervention 3

As part of a site wide scheme to green the space, a replacement tree could be provided. There is potential to remove the existing tree pits and surrounding paving to be replaced with a more complementary design.

Existing

A tree pit with grey stones in the middle and orange bricks around the outer edge.

Example of improvement

A new tree pit with orange gravel in the middle and grey stone around the edge.

Potential intervention 4

Potential to refinish the existing paving to complement the proposed new seating offer.

Existing

A notice board in front of the cenotaph.

Example of improvement

A new light beige footpath.

Potential intervention 5

Potential to use bollards, stone sculptures or planters to regulate vehicle movement surrounding the monument. Vehicle routes to access Falcon Court will be maintained.

Existing

Cars parked on the path next to the cenotaph.

Example of improvement

Black bollards at the edge of path to stop cars parking on the path.
