Greasbrough

We are seeking your input for ways to renew the Men of Greasbrough War Memorial, located on Church Street. This plan shows examples of how the space could be improved.

Greasbrough Cenotaph

A map showing the area around the Greasbrough cenotaph

Potential Intervention 1

Some of the existing boundary fencing is in disrepair. There is an opportunity to replace the old and damaged railings with new fencing.

Existing

A picture of the fencing around the Greasbrough Cenotaph. The fencing is rusting.

Example of improvement

A new black fence with a blue sky background.

Potential Intervention 2

Repair damage and weathering to memorial. Further improvements could include cleaning and potentially uplighting, and/or installing illuminated bollards (subject to available budget).

Existing

A picture of the Cenotaph at Greasbrough.

Example of improvement

A Cenotaph is shown at night time with lighting on it.

Potential Intervention 3

Potential to extend the existing footpath, to encompass the bus stop and existing bench area. New footpath as indicated in white on the image below.

Example of improvement

A picture showing the Cenotaph from road view. A white area highlights the path which is to be improved.

Potential Intervention 4

Potential to replace the damaged bench and old concrete planters with new planting boxes and seating.

Existing

At the side of a rusting gate there is a wooden bench and concrete flower planters.

Examples of improvement

A New light brown bench with black footers.

A light brown wooden flower planter with soil inside.

Potential Intervention 5

Potential to extend surfacing and include extra benches either side of the monument.

Example of improvement

A curved light brown wooden bench on a path.

Potential Intervention 6

Further greenery could be included to increase border planting, and fill-in gaps.

Existing

A grass section of the Cenotaph area, with Greenery next to the fencing in the back.

Example of improvement

A picture of a woodland edge with greenery and bushes.

Potential Intervention 7

Opportunity to add to annual bedding plants with perennial bulbs and framed by a low-growing, decorative hedge.

Examples of improvement

A grass section with an assortment of colourful flower beds.

A house in the background with a garden shown with colourful flower beds.
