Wentworth

We are seeking your input for ways to renew the Wentworth War Memorial, located on the junction of Main Street and Hague Lane. This plan highlights recommendations that could help refresh the space.

Wentworth Cenotaph

A map of the area around Wentworth Cenotaph.

Potential intervention 1

The fund can be used to clean the monument, and dependent on agreement of running costs, there is the possibility to further enhance through uplighting, ground lights or illuminated bollards.

Existing

A Cenotaph with a black railing around it.

Example of improvement

A Cenotaph lit up in the night time.

Potential intervention 2

There is space to the rear of the memorial, providing the opportunity to include new planters and memorial benches.

Example of improvement

A grey flower box is shown on a grey pebbled street.

Potential intervention 3

There is the opportunity to replace the loose pebbles, with a new solid surface that is similar in appearance such as resin and aggregate, or hoggin, which can aid accessibility

Existing

A picture of orange gravel around the Cenotaph with a black railing around it.

Example of improvement

A close up of orange and black gravel next to a silver drain.

Potential intervention 4

To improve accessibility further, we envisage that a new ramp could be installed by removing the steps to the memorial, to create level access from the footway

Existing

The railings around the Cenotaph are shown with a step up to access the Cenotaph.

Example of improvement

A sketch of the access to the Cenotaph with a ramp in place of the step and additional railings.

Potential intervention 5

Potential to replace the existing chain fencing with a new decorative railing.

Existing

The railings around the Cenotaph are shown with a step up to access the Cenotaph.

Example of improvement

Black railings are shown on a grey stone path.

Potential intervention 6

The existing memorial benches are worn and mismatched. There is an opportunity to give them a new lease of life and replace the old ones with new benches and plaques.

Example of improvement

A black metal bench on a beige path is shown.
