How much does a driver's licence cost?
The cost of a new driver's licence including DBS cost is:
- 1 year licence £156
- 3 year licence £228
The above charges include the cost of the knowledge test (£33) and safeguarding training and assessment (£35), additional fees will be payable if any of these elements need to be repeated.
There are other fees that applicants will need to pay to third party providers for services that are not administered by the licensing team (for example the practical driving test, BTEC / NVQ and the medical examination).
In addition to the above, applicants will also need to provide an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service. This certificate must be applied for using a company that has been approved by us, details will be provided to you once we have accepted your application. You will need to pay an additional fee for the Disclosure check (this fee is set by the company that carries out your check).
We will only accept a Disclosure Certificate that has been obtained by using a company that has been approved by us.
Renewal
The cost to renew an existing drivers licence is:
- 1 year licence £88
- 3 year renewal £160
This does not include the cost of a DBS certificate. Existing drivers are required to subscribe to the DBS online update service and so will not normally need to pay for a new check, however this may be required in certain cases and individuals will be informed if this applies to them.
