Knowledge Test and Safeguarding Awareness
All drivers must pass a driver knowledge test and a safeguarding course as part of the application process.
Before you book a test you must have knowledge of our Hackney Carriage and Private Hire licensing Policy.
This test will assess your knowledge and ability in relation to:
- Knowledge of local routes (e.g. which road you would take / area you would pass through when travelling between two named places / venues / attractions).
- Knowledge of the Highway Code
- Understanding of the English language
- Safeguarding awareness
- Simple maths questions
- Disability awareness and customer care
- Knowledge of driver licence conditions and requirements
- Basic vehicle maintenance questions
You will only be able to take the test a maximum of three times so you should have a good knowledge of the Rotherham Borough, driver licence conditions and the Council’s Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy before attempting the test.
This is a written test and you will need to be able to answer questions in writing and in English.
You must produce photographic ID each time you attend for a test. We will check your identification to ensure that you are the person who is booked to attend the test.
Safeguarding Awareness
All drivers will need to take an awareness raising session on safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
More information is given in the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire licensing Policy.
