How to apply
All applications must be made via the Council’s online form, we do not accept paper application forms or application forms sent to us by email. You can apply for your licence using the link at the bottom of this page.
A Council officer will contact you when your application has been accepted and provide you with information about obtaining a DBS Certificate. You should then apply for your DBS certificate and make arrangements for the medical examination, practical driving test, qualification course (e.g. BTEC / NVQ) and obtain the documents required as part of your application. Once you have all the required documents and certificates, please make contact with the Council again and we will make an appointment for you to come to the Council’s Office (Riverside House) and provide the documents to us
You will no longer be able to provide the required documents to the Council by email. Any documents required must be brought to the Council’s office (with an appointment) for review and acceptance. You will need to bring all of the required documents with you to the appointment, the documents required will be:
- DBS Certificate
- Practical driving test pass certificate
- BTEC / NVQ
- Medical (which must have been completed by your registered GP – unless the Council have given you permission to go elsewhere)
- Certificate of Good Conduct (if required)
- Proof of ability in English (if required)
- Current passport or other proof of identity
- DVLA driving licence
- Official document showing proof of your address (utility bill, bank statement etc)
- Photograph (this must meet the same requirements as for a British passport)
Once the documents have been accepted then you will be booked onto the Council’s Safeguarding Awareness Course and Knowledge test. You will not be able to book onto the test / course until you have provided all of the documents at the appointment referred to above.
Once you complete the safeguarding training and pass the knowledge test, your licence will be issued (or referred to the Licensing Board for consideration if required).
Normally, all documents must be original documents and dated after the date that you made your application (with the exception of the BTEC / NVQ which can be up to 12 months old). If you arrive at your appointment without any of the above documents (where required) then you will be asked to make another appointment to return with all of the required documents.
