Disclosure and Barring Service
A criminal record check on a driver is seen as an important safety measure. All drivers must have an Enhanced Disclosure check through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
More information about the DBS application process is given in the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire licensing Policy.
It is a condition that all applicants for a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire driver licence sign up to the DBS Online Update Service. This also includes existing licence holders.
A licence will not be issued unless the Licensing Authority are able to access the DBS Online Update Service.

Your disclosure certificate must be obtained via a company that has been approved by us, details will be provided to you once we have accepted your application. You will need to pay an additional fee for the Disclosure check (this fee is set by the company that carries out your check).
We will only accept a Disclosure Certificate that has been obtained by using a company that has been approved by us (certificates obtained when applying for other roles will not be accepted).
If you were not born in the UK or have spent longer than 6 months living outside of the UK since you were 10 years old then you may be required to provide a certificate of good conduct (or similar document) from all of the countries that you have resided in – if you are unable to provide such a certificate then further checks will be carried out and you may be required to provide more information during the application process.
