Information for carers

Emergency Planning and Carers Emergency Scheme

Carers often worry about what will happen if they become ill or are suddenly unavailable to provide care. Thinking about contingency arrangements when you provide care is something you should talk about with the person you care for and family and friends who might be available to provide support.

Supporting you with contingency planning will form part of a carers assessment and emergency plan. The plan will need to be registered with Rotherham Borough Councils Carers Emergency Scheme to enable you to access care and support for the person you care for if there is an emergency and there is no-one else who can step in to provide the care you would usually provide.

Criteria

The service can only be used in an emergency, for instance when the informal (primary) Carer sustains a sudden injury, illness or has an unplanned hospital admission. The Scheme will aim to provide support within the hour and will provide support for up 48 hours (or 72 hours during a bank holiday). This will allow time for any longer term need to be assessed and a care plan to be put in place.
