Forge Island footbridge

A map of central Rotherham with the Forget Island Footbridge highlighted

The existing footbridge across the River Don between the main town centre to Forge Island will be replaced with a new pedestrian bridge. This will provide a high-quality, traffic free walking route between the town centre, Rotherham Central Station and planned Forge Island leisure development  - which will include a landscaped public square, cinema, cafes, restaurants and bars.

This scheme is be delivered through Rotherham Council with money secured from the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.

Work commenced in October 2022. The footbridge is forecast to be built by March 2023, and open to the public with the Forge Island development in May 2024.
