Parkgate link road and park & ride

A package of complementary schemes is being completed to ease congestion on the A633 by providing a new link road and footway from Aldwarke Lane into Parkgate Shopping Park and a new 268-space park & ride facility with EV car charging for the Parkgate Tram-Train terminus.

A consultation on this scheme was run in spring 2021 and planning permission granted in August 2022.

Highway improvements are also proposed at the Parkgate roundabout with localised widening on the southern approach and exit.

The schemes will improve bus reliability and journey times in the area by providing a more accessible route into Parkgate Shopping for residents in the north and east of Rotherham and reducing traffic volumes on the A633, as well as access to the Tram-Train network and a proposed new, larger capacity park & ride.

The scheme is being delivered by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) with money secured from the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund.

Main works commenced in February 2023.

The roundabout on Aldwarke Lane partially opened to traffic in August 2024, to allow construction of the tie-in between the new roundabout and the road.

The new link road is not yet open to traffic.

The current completion and opening of the park and ride is expected in winter 2024.
