Travel network improvements

Magna Tram-train park and ride

This ambitious project is the first to grow the Tram-Train network since its opening in 2018. This scheme aims to introduce a new stop along the Tram Train route at Magna along with the creation of a new park & ride site, serving both Sheffield and Rotherham, utilising existing under used car parking spaces at the Science & Adventure Park.

The new Tram-Train stop and park & ride will also link up with the proposed walking and cycling route between Tinsley and Rotherham town centre and Sheffield City Council’s proposed scheme for walking and cycling links continuing on to Meadowhall, ensuring that residents, visitors and commuters have a range of active travel options to reach the new public transport link.

The project is being delivered by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) with funding secured from the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund. SYMCA are working closely with Network Rail on delivery of the proposed new Tram-Train stop.

A public consultation on the scheme was conducted in summer 2021 and the scheme is scheduled to be completed and operational by autumn 2024.
