Decoration Allowance
What is a Decoration Allowance?
A decoration allowance is money given to tenants to contribute towards the cost of decorating their homes; this is compensation for the costs when maintenance or repair work has disrupted or damaged existing decorations.
When is decoration allowance paid?
Below is a list of major repairs that may be considered for decoration allowance:
- Kitchen and bathroom replacements (if the Council doesn't redecorate after fitting).
- Damp proof work.
- Electrical rewire.
- Major structural repairs.
What's Changing?
Starting April 1, 2025, the following changes will be implemented:
- Increase per Room: The decoration allowance will increase from £25 per room to £50 per room.
- Maximum Total Allowance: The maximum total allowance per property will increase to £350. (The Council will discuss with tenants individually to agree on the total amount applicable per case).
