Constituency Review 2023

Hoober ward is currently in the Wentworth & Dearne constituency and will be in the Rawmarsh & Conisbrough constituency when the new Parliamentary boundaries come into force.

Current arrangements

There is potential for the following housing developments:

• HOA: Approx 374 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 511.
• HOC: Approx 213 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 275.
• HOD: Approx 164 properties with an estimated polling station electorate of 208.

(Acting) Returning Officer’s comments and proposals

1. The HOA polling district electorate currently exceeds the new recommended maximum for polling station electors. With proposed housing developments, there could be an estimated additional 5 polling station electors.

It is proposed that the HOA polling district is split into two new smaller polling districts, with the new boundary running along Knollbeck Lane from the borough boundary, before running behind the odd numbered properties on Knollbeck Lane.It will then run behind the properties on Knollbeck Crescent before continuing behind the Sid Bailey Care Home and Brampton Parish Hall to join the existing boundary int eh middle of Westfield Road. The new polling district to the south of the new boundary will be named HOA and the new polling district to the north named HOJ.

Given the lack of other suitable buildings in the new HOA and HOJ polling districts, it is proposed the polling place for HOA and HOJ is Brampton Bierlow Parish Hall.This is currently used for the HOA polling district, so would not change for electors in the new HOA and HOJ polling districts.

2. When considering the potential new housing developments, the projected polling station electorate for the HOC polling district may exceed the new recommended maximum.  As the projected figure is less than 100 electors over the recommended maximum and the turnout at the last Parliamentary election in 2019 was 45.7%, the (Acting) Returning Officer does not propose to make changes to the HOC polling district at this time.  However, the polling district electorate will be monitored and if necessary, an interim review will be carried out to consider changes to the polling district.
3. It should be noted that the polling place for HOF has changed its name from Harley Church to Harley Village Mission Rooms.
